C is for cookie, that's good enough for me...

Why is it that I do better when I'm busy? I thrive under pressure, I do better with things at the last minute. I get more done when I have too much to do. And if I am scheduled to the hilt, you better believe I'm flying. It's great. I get SOOOOOO bored and unmotivated when I have a slow schedule or just "a few things" to do. Or just my normal routine stuff and nothing more. Don't get me wrong, my "normal routine" can fill my day. Sometimes overfill it. But when I NEED to get stuff done I make the time and I am superspeed mama. It's seriously like a high. The thrill of a challenge maybe? Something like that. The problem? I'm a 90%er. All the way. Yup. I have SUCH a hard time going that final 10% on like EVERYTHING! I give 110%. But for the most part I am truly a 90%er. And in every undertaking I have, I seem to just miss something or not quite get everything just the way I envisioned it or wanted it to be. Kind of like this post... I'm eyeing it, going back through and wondering if my writing actually makes sense or not. Sheesh. It may be possible that I'm just so much of a perfectionist that I see 100% as 90%. But I'm pretty sure it's still really 90% sometimes. Take for example my house projects. Right now, currently, as in at this very moment, there are projects in my house that were done that are "finished" that aren't technically finished. Case in point: The trim in my living room. If you look closely, you'll notice there are gaps around the edges of my floor in places. This is because I have not "finished" that project by putting in the shoe molding all around. I have the molding. It is sitting in my garage. I have the stain that goes with it. I even have the nail gun that will hold it in place. I just haven't done it yet. I have 2 cabinets in my kitchen that are not painted like the rest. Granted they are the newer cabinets that I added to the kitchen, but nevertheless they are not painted yet. Yup. And they've been like that for A WHILE... I know. Pathetic right? I bought the concrete paint for the bottom foundation of the house so it will complete our awesome paint job we did last year. It's sitting in the garage just waiting for me to come out and get it going. If the weather would ever warm up. Excuses, excuses, I know! Seriously, it's an addiction. Sigh. I could make a list 10 feet long of things that need "tweaked" or "completely done" or "redone". It's not that I don't WANT to do it. I WANT to finish these projects. I just can't seem to FINISH them. Grr... Part of my problem is that I have to have my house in fairly good order to even THINK about starting on or finishing a project. So of course that doesn't happen a lot right there! But I'm not sure if it's a time thing, a motivation thing, or just a plain lazy thing. Probably the latter. Darn it.

Welcome to the digital world

I just booked my babysitter for saturday by IM-ing her on facebook.
Yelled at my kiddos on skype today. (They were upstairs on the computer and think it's hilarious to skype me while I'm working on the computer downstairs)
I'm so techno savvy...
ha ha...

Crazy 8

It's here. The time I didn't think would come forever. My baby is turning 8. My OLDEST child will be 8 tomorrow. Can you believe it? Neither can I. She's way too small to be 8. She's not really is she? But alas, I think it is true! In my mind, turning 8 symbolizes going from a little kid to a big kid. She'll no longer be a "little kid". She'll be getting baptized, going to Achievement Days, going into 3rd grade. When did she get that big? We've been talking for months about all the changes that are coming simply because she's turning 8. I think she's a little overwhelmed. I know I am. She'll be accountable now. New responsibilities, new ideas, new choices. I really can't treat her like a "little" kid anymore. She's getting too big for little kid things, she moving into big kid stuff. She's watching less and less cartoons and more "tween" shows like icarly and Hannah Montana. She wants to have her hair fixed and have cute clothes and can't be associated with "baby" things. I've seen it coming, but I just haven't really seen that it is HERE. For her birthday she requested a diary. A DIARY! So she can hide away her writing and thoughts. You mean I can't just see everything she's doing? She wants to have her own little "life"? I think that's mostly why it's so weird to me. She's becoming so independent. She's her own person now. She doesn't need or want me around as much. She's questioning why she has to do things a certain way. She's not just accepting that "because mom said so" she has to pick up her stuff or wear a certain outfit. She's hearing other messages around her and checking them with me. She's deciding for herself how to act, what to take in, what to push away. Like I said, it's been in the works for years, it's just surfacing a little more now. And turning 8 gives her more leeway. I have to trust her a little more, let go a little, and still be in tune somehow. Scary. And even scarier, I'll be a Mother of an 8 year old... I no longer have all "little" kids. I'm starting to go into the middle group or motherhood, not the beginning. Which means that teenagers are right around the corner. Yikes! How did I get that old? I'm not even 30 yet! but at the same time, it's about TIME! She's FINALLY going to be 8. How long have I been raising "little" kids? 8 YEARS. Diapers, fits, whiny-ness, control struggles, you name it. Does this finally mean she's growing up?

Hee-Haw!

As part of a fundraiser for FFA here, they did a donkey basketball game at the high school. Yep, with real live donkeys! They had four teams, two made up of FFA members, a firefighter/police team, and a teacher team. Ryan signed up to play. He did this before a few years back, so he thought he'd try it again. It's loads of fun and for a good cause. It's hilarious to watch people try and get the donkeys to go where they want them to and try to climb up on them while they are moving. Got a good video of him this year. Enjoy!

The kiddos actually sat and watched pretty much the whole time. They also got to go pet the donkeys at halftime.

P.S. The "nutty professors" won! Go daddy!
